Welcoming a French bulldog puppy, Elizabeth, into my life is an exciting and heartwarming experience, filled with new lessons and adorable milestones. This week has been a whirlwind of discovery for my little bundle of joy, and I’m thrilled to share what we’ve learned together. From conquering fears to making new friends, here’s a peek into the world through the eyes of my curious and brave Frenchie.
Loud Sounds Aren't Scary
One of the biggest breakthroughs this week has been helping my Frenchie puppy realize that loud sounds aren’t as terrifying as they seem. From the roar of the vacuum cleaner to the sudden slam of roofing material into a dumpster, Elizabeth initially reacted with wide eyes and a hasty retreat. With patience and positive reinforcement, we've turned these scary noises into a normal part of life. Now, instead of running away, she tilts her head with curiosity, ready to investigate the source of the commotion.
People Come in All Shapes and Sizes
During our daily walks, my puppy has encountered a variety of people—tall, short, young, old, and everything in between. At first, the diversity was a bit overwhelming. But with each friendly interaction, she’s learned that people, no matter their appearance, often come with kind words and gentle pets. Watching Elizabeth's confidence grow as she eagerly greets new faces has been a joy.
Outdoor Group Classes Are Fun
Our weekly outdoor group puppy classes have become a highlight. These sessions are more than just training; they're social events where Elizabeth can play and learn alongside other pups. The fresh air, combined with structured activities, keeps my Frenchie engaged and happy. It’s amazing to see her grasp new commands and tricks, all while building bonds with me.
The Big Dog Is Nice
A gentle giant is living with us—Hariette, the Broholmer who, despite her towering size, has the heart of a teddy bear. Initially, Elizabeth was hesitant, but curiosity soon overcame fear. With careful supervision, she’s learned that Hariette isn’t as intimidating as she looks. Now, they share playful interactions, and my Frenchie eagerly looks forward to their shared time.
Playing in Mazes Is Stimulating
To keep my puppy mentally and physically stimulated, I introduced her to my homemade maze. I created the mini obstacle course using PVC piping and rope to make danglers. Navigating through the twists and turns has become a favourite activity. It’s not only fun but also a fantastic way to engage her problem-solving skills and tire her out in the process.
Clickers Bring Treats
Clicker training has been a game-changer this week. The clicker sound, followed by a treat, has quickly taught my Frenchie that good behaviour earns rewards. From sitting on command to coming when called, she’s making impressive strides. The sound of the clicker now sparks excitement, and she eagerly anticipates the treat that follows.
When Poop Hits the Fan, My New Human Is Safe
Accidents happen, and this week we had our share of puppy mishaps. But through each little mess, Elizabeth has learned that her new human is a source of comfort and safety. Whether it’s a quick clean-up or a reassuring cuddle, she knows that she can count on me. Building this trust has been incredibly rewarding, and it’s heartwarming to see Elizabeth look to me for reassurance.
This week has been filled with important lessons and joyful discoveries for my French bulldog puppy. Watching her grow and adapt to the world around her is a reminder of the simple yet profound joys of pet ownership. Each new experience not only enriches her life but also strengthens our bond. I can’t wait to see what new adventures and lessons next week will bring!
Cheers.
